Insulation & Portuguese homes

Insulation and Portuguese homes don’t really seem to go together. Very often even in recently built houses the insulation although detailed in the building plans is not actually installed whether it’s to save money on the build cost or people don’t see the need for it is not understood.

So what can you do if you suspect your house has no insulation installed.

Don’t waste money trying to keep it warm. Contact info@casteloconstruction.com and we will be able to examine your house and tell you if your suspicions are correct.

You could for instance be living in a stone house that has no insulation. What can you do to make your house warmer?.

Many people say that they have never been so cold as when they spent their first winter in a Portuguese non insulated home. You don’t have to be cold, we can help you. Attached are  photographs demonstrating one method of insulating your home.

insulation Portugal how too

The “wallmate” insulation board shown here is widely available and not effected by moisture so can be used outside.   In thicknesses up to 40mm it can be fixed to interior or exterior walls with adhesive and special plastic nails.

The board has  tongue and groove joints all around it so even the edges were board but up to each other insulate well.

Once the adhesive is applied to the back of the board the board and wall are drilled to accept the large plastic nail (no rust) the flat-headed board retaining nail then has a what looks like a conventional nail hammered into it.

This wedge nail makes the fixing very secure indeed. Once the boards are fixed a nylon mesh is cemented on to the outside of the insulation to cover the joints and make a key to secure the cement render which will be the final finishing coat.

The finished effect is very good and will last for many years. You don’t have to put up with the poor or no existent Insulation in your Portuguese home.

We can help you achieve a dry warm home with the minimum of fuss. For information on how we can help you and  what we do go to http://www.casteloconstruction.com Phone 00351 927168247
