Pool Problems: Glass Fibre/Fibreglass

Fibreglass swimming pools look at first glance to be a perfect option. They come in attractive shapes and colours and normally not too deep and can be fitted in place quickly. So where’s the catch?

The quality and strength of a glass fibre swimming pool is at its poorest when it has been badly installed.

Apart from the pool potentially subsiding in its location (so that the edge and water level are out of line). There is the possibility of a stone or other sharp object perforating the bottom or sides of the pool due to the pressure caused by filling the pool with water bearing down on the stone and cracking the gel coat. Any repairs are complex and expensive.

The other problem is that the gel coats fade and lose their lustre. This is something that you can’t get back resulting in a tired look to the swimming pool.
