Damp wall portugal

Why do people look on internet forums for solutions to serious property problems such as a damp wall in their homes?

This wall is very damp

Very damp wall (1)

The only reason that I can think of is because they want to have a free or very cheap solution to their damp problem.

Perhaps they feel it’s likely to be a really serious/expensive problem and hope it will go away if you ignore it for long enough or hear of a magic solution that costs a few pennies.

Instead of looking at forums to solve the problem of your damp wall Portugal where you get lots of conflicting and uninformed solutions there are many professional websites out there admittedly trying to sell you products but also offering masses of very useful information.

Here’s a useful website http://www.channel4.com/4homes/how-to/diy/how-to-spot-and-deal-with-damp-08-05-27

I like it because they talk about the main problems that damp in your home causes.

What type of damp is this

What Is Rising Damp? “water from the ground that enters a structure by capillary action” Some of the signs are – Decayed floor boards, Crumbling or stained plaster and wallpaper.

What Is Penetrating Damp? – “water that enters a building and moved through the walls horizontally or from a higher to a lower level” Penetrating damp is most common in older homes that have solid walls. Penetrating damp can be tricky to pin-point, and may often require expert help. What Are The Signs? – The appearance of damp patches on walls, ceilings or floors. These tend to grow or darken after periods of heavy or prolonged rain.

With over 50 days of continuous rain in 2014 there is a high likelihood that your old Portuguese home is showing signs of Penetrating damp.

What Is Condensation? – Water vapor from the air that forms as condensation or wet patches inside your home. How does it happen? “Water laden air comes into contact with cold surfaces such as windows and cold walls it can condense, causing water to be deposited”. Condensation is often associated with poor heating and ventilation in buildings, but this simple view can be misleading.

Condensation is chiefly a winter problem, the external air temperature is low and external walls and windows are cold.

What Are The Signs? “ Running water on windows and walls is most noticeable it can lead to a deterioration in the decorative condition of the property”
