How to insulate a stone house in Portugal – Keeping warm in your home is often taken for granted in the UK and northern Europe we have fuel delivered to our door or via cables or pipes so it’s often a matter of just flicking a switch to make your house warm and comfortable. If your house is old possibly built of stone they you can “dry line” with plasterboard and insulation or you can use the polystyrene sheeting method. Both will produce a warm home that will heat up quicker in the winter and stay cooler in the summer. Despite the initial cost of the lining you will save money on your fuel over time and more importantly be comfortable living in a Portuguese home.

Then a fiberglass mesh is applied inside a special mortar, then a second coat and finally a top coat. Which provides the smooth interior finish. The ceiling has also been insulated and plaster boarded. The plaster board is a special humidity resistant type. The same that we normally use for  bathroom ceilings.

Dry lining using plaster board and galvanized steel framing. In this type of dry lining plaster board is screwed onto the metal framing and rock wool insulation fixed in the spaces between the uprights. This method is fine as long as there is no damp areas in the walls that you are covering even if there is no damp that you are aware of its best to use “moisture resistant” green board
