Minimum Room Sizes

Minimum Room Sizes

You may have bought a property with the idea of refurbishing it or extending or otherwise re arranging the layout of the accommodation. Are you aware that you could be effected by the laws on minimum room sizes.

Here in Portugal we have minimum room sizes constraints which dictate the minimum sizes for rooms in a home. The one that causes the most consternation is the disability bathroom which requires a wheelchair turning circle to be accommodated in the center of the bathroom. This make the bathroom very large. Much larger that we are used to in the UK. The other odd thing is that a bath has to be included in this disability bathroom even if you want a shower.

The next area that has rules about size in the kitchen which should have a minimum size of 6 M2 not including the area taken up by people movement from one room to another.

These rules and others pertaining to the size of the bedrooms and living room may make fitting into the available space in your old stone house a little tricky.
