Window, in stone wall, opening window

knocking window through or cutting windows into rendered stone work makes it easier to hide them. In a pointed stone wall it’s a lot harder. Here are three photos showing what the Castelo Construction craftsmen can do. window, stone wall, opening window, knocking window through, Stone walls can pose problems particularly when they are two feet thick 60cms and built over a hundred years ago. This wall just needs the rest of the stone pointed and the shuttering removed before the new kitchen window is installed.
We are often asked for advice on how best to make an existing window larger or how to cut a new window through a stone wall. I will show the work involved with a few pictures starting with making an existing window larger. In this photograph the refurbishment is progressing well. Now it’s time to tackle the job of making this small adega (Wine making room) window into a window suitable for the spacious bedroom it has now become. We removed over a ton of stone and rubble to hake this window opening. The lintel over the top of the opening is cast in-sit-u and the sides of the window “ window reveals” are also reinforced. Following some brick work and render we have a opening ready for the double glazed aluminium window to be fitted. Followed by the shutters. Can you see which window is the new one ?
